This section will show you how to configure your new D-Link wireless router using the web-based configuration utility.
Web-based Configuration Utility
To access the configuration utility, open a web-browser such as Internet Explorer and enter the IP address of the router (192.168.0.1).
Select Admin from the drop-down menu and then enter
your password. Leave the password blank by default.
If you get a Page Cannot be Displayed error, please refer to the Troubleshooting section for assistance.
Internet Connection Setup Wizard
Once logged into the web interface of the router, the Setup > Internet page will appear. Click the Internet Connection
Setup Wizard button to quickly configure your router using the setup wizard.
Click Next to continue.
Create a new password and then click Next to continue.
Select your time zone from the drop-down menu and
then click Next to continue.
Select the type of Internet connection you use and
then click Next to continue.
If you selected Dynamic, you may need to enter the MAC address of the computer that was last connected directly to your modem. If you are currently using that computer, click Clone Your PC’s MAC Address and then click Next to continue.
The Host Name is optional but may be required by some ISPs. The default host name is the device name of the Router and may be changed.
If you selected PPPoE, enter your PPPoE username and password. Click Next to continue.
Select Static if your ISP assigned you the IP address, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS erver addresses.
*** Note: Make sure to remove your PPPoE software
from your computer. The software is no longer needed and will not work through a router.
Click Connect to save your settings. Once the router is finished rebooting, click Continue. Please allow 1-2 minutes to connect.

Step 1 Connect the cable modem to the WAN (INTERNET) port of your router. If the modem has USB connection make sure that it is NOT connected to any computers via the USB cable and that the modem is switched to Ethernet (not USB). Only the modem's Ethernet port should be connected to the router's WAN (INTERNET) port.
Connect your computer(s) to the router's LAN port(s) or establish connection to it wirelessly.
Step 2 Open your Internet Explorer and log into your router by typing in its IP address (in most cases the default IP is http://192.168.0.1 ). Note that you do not have to be on the Internet in order to access this address because you are just connecting to your router's address. Specify username and password for your router, default is `admin' and password is blank (nothing).
Step 3 After logging into the router select Setup. Set Internet Connection to 'Dynamic IP (DHCP)' option.
This can be done by either clicking on Internet Connection Setup Wizard or if you want to set it up manually, then click on 'Manual Internet Connection Setup'.
Step 4 Click on SAVE SETTINGS and then on REBOOT THE DEVICE to apply the new configuration.
If you are having difficulties accessing the Internet, you need to:
- Select the MAC Cloning option. Click on Clone MAC Address button. Do this from the computer which the Optus cable modem was directly connected to the last time. This will place the MAC address of your computer into the router. Save settings and reboot the router. Reboot your cable modem as well.
- Log into the router and go to Status page. Note what IP address it is getting on the WAN (INTERNET) interface. If the IP address you see under WAN (INTERNET) appears to be in the same range you are using on your network (e.g. 192.168.0.x), you will need to change the range you are using on your LAN to something different, e.g. 192.168.88.x. You can do this on your router under Setup > LAN Setup. Note that after changing the IP of your router you will only be able to access it through its new IP, e.g. 192.168.88.1.
- Uninstall your antivirus/firewall software (sometimes disabling or closing the software is not enough) and reboot your PC. After establishing the Internet connection through the router reinstall the antivirus/firewall software.

**Note: Enabling WEP on a DRAFT N connection will cap the speed to 54mbps. To gain the Draft N possible speeds, WPA2 is recomended. However WPA will also work.
WEP is only available on 1.07 firmware or above, except for the DIR-655. WEP is available on 1.01 firmware for the DIR-655.
Please note use only hard-wired network connections, to do the setting.
** Disable firewall in your PC to avoid login problem**
Step 1 Open a web browser and type the IP address of the DIR series router into the address bar (default is http://192.168.0.1).
Step 2 The default username is 'admin' (all lower case) and the default password is blank (nothing). Click on OK.
Step 3 Click on the Setup tab at the top and then click on Wireless Settings on the lefthand side.
Step 4 Click on Manual Wireless Setup button at the bottom.
Step 5 From the Wireless Security Mode dropdown menu, select WEP encryption. WEP is the wireless encryption standard. To use it you must enter the same key(s) into the router and all wireless clients you wish to connect.
For 64 bit keys you must enter 10 hex digits into each key box. For 128 bit keys you must enter 26 hex digits into each key box. A hex digit is either a number from 0 to 9 or a letter from A to F.
You may also enter any text string into a WEP key box, in which case it will be converted into a hexadecimal key using the ASCII values of the characters. A maximum of 5 text characters can be entered for 64 bit keys, and a maximum of 13 characters for 128 bit keys.
Step 6 Click on Save Settings to save your settings.

Step 1: Download the latest firmware to your computer.
Step 2: Once you have downloaded the firmware, open a web browser such as Internet Explorer or Netscape and enter the IP address of your router (192.168.0.1).
Step 3: Enter your username (admin) and your password (leave the field blank).
Click on OK to enter the web configuration for the device.
Step 4: Click on the Tools tab and then click on Firmware on the lefthand side.
Click on the Browse button and browse to the .bin (or .dlf) file you downloaded in
Step 5. Highlight the file by clicking on it once and click on Open.
Step 6: Click on UPLOAD to upgrade firmware. It may take a up to 30 seconds for the upgrade to complete. Click on Continue when it appears. The firmware is now upgraded.
